Connecting for Impact: Launching a Community of Practice on Assessment

Activity: Talk or presentationPanel

Description

This session will serve as a launching pad for creating a Community of Practice (CoP) focused on assessment research among SCELC member librarians. The goal is to gauge interest and begin building connections among librarians who want to collaborate on developing assessment strategies that demonstrate library value and impact. The discussion will explore how experienced assessment researchers can mentor and support librarians who are newer to this work, fostering skill-building, idea sharing, and collaborative projects.

Rather than a formal presentation, the session will be structured as an interactive discussion, potentially with a small panel to spark ideas, where participants can share challenges, identify common needs, and explore opportunities for joint projects. From this conversation, we aim to outline next steps for formally establishing the CoP. This initiative aligns with SCELC's Return on Investment pillar by fostering collaboration that leads to tailored impact analyses, clear ROI reports, and evidence-based practices. By working together, librarians can better communicate their contributions to student success, faculty research, and institutional goals, strengthening the library’s role in advancing campus missions. Join us to help shape this new community and ensure libraries have the tools and support needed to demonstrate their value effectively.
