About
Anupama Prabhala is Associate Professor of Film Studies at Loyola Marymount University. Her research situates moving image melodrama within a wider cultural history of the body, affect, ethics, and citizenship in modern India. Her work has been published in Framework, South Asian Popular Culture, Indian Film Stars (BFI, 2017), The 1960s Revisited: Fashion, Film, Modernities (Indiana UP, 2017), and Figurations in Indian Film (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013). Her award-winning collection Silent Cinema and the Politics of Space (coedited with Jennifer Bean and Laura Horak, Indiana UP, 2014) engages with silent cinema's multiple dispersals and messy crossings—of origins, texts, locations, and histories. She is a member of The Melodrama Consortium and serves on the program committee for the India Kaleidoscope Festival at MOMI.
