About
Ben Johns is a professional singer, conductor, and voice teacher. He currently co-music directs and sings with the LA-based vocal ensemble, Resonant, and sings at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Pasadena. As a young person he acted in television commercials, sang in children’s opera choruses, performed in professional musical theater productions with Sacramento Music Circus, and trained as a dancer whose particular love was clogging. Rather than decide on a single academic major as an undergraduate, Johns imagined he could keep career options open to a future in neuroscience, medicine, and performing. Music took over when he auditioned into the American male classical vocal ensemble, Chanticleer.
Dr. Johns ran an award-winning education program for Chanticleer, creating an elite youth choir program and establishing national youth choral festivals. Before guest conducting and teaching across the country, he performed as a choral artist and soloist at venues around the world, including the Musikverein in Vienna; the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; the Paris Consulate; Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall; National Theater Taipei; Walt Disney Concert Hall; and the Hollywood Bowl. His music recording appearances include Grammy Award-winning albums “Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 8” and “Charles Ives: the Complete Symphonies” with the LA Phil. He is also on the feature film soundtrack under the baton of John Williams in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
