Craig Rich

Dr. Craig Rich joined Loyola Marymount University's Department of Communication Studies in 2009. With over 10 years of instructional experience, he teaches courses in the areas of relational communication, organizational communication, communication and diversity, research methods, and communication theory. As a teacher, Dr. Rich uses student-centered, collaborative learning approaches to develop students' communication knowledge, skills, and abilities, particularly through their practical application in real-world contexts. Ultimately, his teaching supports learners' personal and professional development as ethical leaders for a more socially just world.

As a researcher, Dr. Rich studies diversity and organization. With a specific focus on gender and sexual diversity, his scholarship examines communication processes that marginalize lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer workers. Although trained as a multiple method researcher, much of his scholarship employs ethnographic methodologies. Dr. Rich has published in top-ranked journals in the fields of communication, organization studies, and management, including Communication Monographs and Gender, Work, and Organization. His work has also been featured in the Southern Communication Journal and the Tamara Journal for Critical Organizational Inquiry. Dr. Rich's interdisciplinary and international reputation is also reflected in invited presentations at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland; the UC Davis Conference on Qualitative Research and Management, and Stanford University's Scandinavian Consortium for Organizational Research.

In addition to this work as a teacher/scholar, Dr. Rich enjoys advising and mentoring students. For instance, he has worked one-on-one with students to support their professional or scholarly aspirations, including independent studies, applications to study abroad or pursue advanced professional training, and participation in scholarly programs and conferences. Dr. Rich also serves as the faculty advisor for the Upsilon Phi chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the Communication Studies Honors Society.
