About
Joshua Mason is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Loyola Marymount University. He earned his PhD from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and specializes in comparative philosophy, Chinese philosophy, and ethics. Dr. Mason takes a hermeneutic approach to comparison across traditions, focusing on the historical connotations of ethical ideals and metaphors. He hopes that by extending our capacity for ethical understanding, we can overcome contemporary political predicaments. His recent work clarifies diverse conceptions of harmony and justice, and advances cross-cultural dialog.
Dr. Mason teaches ethics, comparative philosophy, and Asian philosophy classes. He encourages students to come by during office hours, or email for an appointment outside of regular times.
