Saeri Cho Dobson is an Associate Professor of graphic design at Loyola Marymount University. She challenges the commonly-held belief that words live on a page, by transforming letterforms into characters that act upon a stage. With spellbinding type craft and rhythmic word spacing, she dignifies text, its meaning and pacing. By deftly weaving dynamic and dimensional graphic voices into artfully orchestrated typeset words, her characteristically narrative explorations offer multicultural perspectives on contemporary issues of social import. Equality through typography... Her artistic pursuit of justice and moral responsibility to educate the whole person are hallmarks of her dynamic teaching philosophy. Prior to this, she taught visual communication design at NanYang Technological University in Singapore. Saeri holds a BFA in Communication Design from Parsons School of Design in New York, and a MFA from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Past works in both print and new media expand the boundaries between type as text, and type as texture. Her experimental typography has been exhibited in galleries in New Zealand, Seoul Korea, Mexico and Los Angeles.
