Abstract

The photochemical decarbonylation reaction of ketones has been the focus of much interest. The mechanism of this reaction involves the loss of CO by a sequential cleavage of two sigma bonds. Our group is interested in developing the solid-state photodecarbonylation reaction to synthesize complex bicyclic compounds from the corresponding bridged ketones. The bridged ketones were synthesized using a tandem Michael-addition-intramolecular aldolization and Mn(III) based oxidative free radical cyclization.
