Abstract
The article focuses on the importance of applied communication theory in service-learning. Service-learning has gained popularity in recent years, despite concurrent trends reflecting an increasing emphasis on individualism, decreasing sense of civic responsibility, and a general alienation from community. Service-learning demands that faculty practice the active learning strategies they purport to value and respect the diversity of student learning styles.
