Abstract

Blade Runner is justifiably celebrated as a seminal cinematic achievement due to its remarkable visual density, haunting soundtrack, and novel melding of film noir, science fiction, and cyberpunk genres and motifs. It is also a deeply thought provoking film. How did Los Angeles circa 2019 descend into such a sorry state of urban decay? What's up with those amazing artificial animals? Why does Roy Batty save Deckard in that famous rooftop scene? What will become of Deckard and Rachael as fugitives from the law? Is Deckard himself really a replicant as many viewers believe? As Roy Barry says to Chew a one point, "Yes, questions..."
