N2 - We Are the Canon: AntiRacist Theatre Pedagogy Workshops are about acknowledging that the work of Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and their multitudes of heritage, experience, and life have always been there and must now be given pride of place and centered. These workshops were created by Daphnie Sicre and Karl O’Brian Williams, after years of discussing how to become antiracist professors. Since 2019, we have conducted over 50+ workshops to high school teachers, college professors, theatre departments, and theatre organizations across the country and the globe.
For this book chapter, we wanted to share our insights through a reflective roundtable conversation with one of our students, Maya Johnson, who served as a research assistant for the workshops. Together, we discuss what we have learned from our practice.
