Abstract

As the Western world proceeds into an age of global interdependency, we are beginning to recognize the various flaws that have hindered intercultural studies. In The Tao of the West: Western Transformations of Taoist Thought, J. j. Clarke addresses the confusion that surrounds traditional Western understandings of Daoist concepts. Dao (Tao), a term that evokes all sorts of images, has penetrated Western consciousness: the scientific discussion in Tao Physics, a Hollywood movie Tao of Steve; an illustration of the way of life found in Tao of Pooh; and an artistic elevation found in Tao of Photography
